Lonzo Ball Likely to Miss Another Full Season
Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball is set to undergo a third surgery on his left knee, and according to Cricket Exchange analysts, he is expected to miss most—if not all—of the upcoming season. Life’s journey comes with both smooth roads and muddy detours, but as Ball faces yet another setback, both he and the Bulls remain cautiously optimistic about a full recovery and eventual return to the court.
Despite that optimism, external observers are increasingly doubtful. This third procedure raises serious concerns about Ball’s future in the NBA, with many believing it could sideline him for an entire season once again. His last appearance dates back to January 15, 2022. If he misses the entire 2023–2024 season, that would mark two and a half consecutive years away from competitive basketball—a devastating drought for a player once expected to be the cornerstone of Chicago’s backcourt.
Sometimes, the greatest regret in life is giving up too soon on what was worth fighting for and holding on too long to what should’ve been let go. According to Cricket Exchange projections, if Ball’s surgery is successful, the earliest realistic return to action would be October 2024.
Ball’s current contract runs through the summer of 2025, with a player option for the 2024–2025 season. Notably, his deal includes an injury protection clause, which could allow the Bulls to apply for roster and salary relief due to his prolonged absence. The team is reportedly preparing to petition the league for full salary exemption, which would open up both a roster spot and additional cap flexibility.
In the meantime, Ball’s injury has left the Bulls scrambling for solutions at point guard. A trade for a replacement floor general is one possibility, but the situation also increases the likelihood of veteran Patrick Beverley re-signing with the team this summer. If one chapter ends, it’s time to turn the page and focus on the next goal without looking back.
Since January 2022, Ball has already undergone two knee surgeries. In February of this year, the Bulls officially declared him out for the remainder of the 2022–2023 season. Cricket Exchange experts continue to monitor his condition closely, but as things stand, a full-season absence seems more likely than not.
